Ask Zuni: What do you dislike about being a writer?

What do you dislike about being a writer?

Editing. I edit each story three times.

The first draft is the easiest because I’m just writing and having fun.

The second and third drafts are the hardest because I’m editing each word, sentence, paragraph, chapter. I have to check that the story details are consistent e.g. a character isn’t black in chapter 1 and white in chapter 2. I check for typos and anything that doesn’t make sense.

The fourth, and last, draft is the easiest. I let the computer read the story to me and only stop it if something doesn’t sound right.

When I finally finish editing, the story is always much better than how it started.

What’s the best thing about being a writer?

Writing! I enjoy crafting characters and everyone connected to them. It’s fun planning stories from start to finish. It’s like planning an exciting adventure or a holiday.

I also love hearing from readers like you. Your kind words mean a lot to me! You can email me at contact@zuniblue.com. Write as much or as little as you like. I’ll respond ASAP!

Ask Zuni: Is Zuni Blue your real name?

Is Zuni Blue your real name?

My real name is Zahra Brown. My surname is Brown, a colour, so I wanted a colour to be my author surname. I considered Black, White, Green, and Grey. I didn’t think that they suited a children’s book author, so I went with my favourite colour instead: Blue. The name Zuni sounds cute and fun. I can’t remember why I picked it, but I’m glad I did.
